Sensory Event Recommendations
Events and parties in public spaces are unpredictable and easily overstimulating to the neurodivergent brain. When someone is overstimulated, the best thing to do is take a break. Where do you go? Most often, we surrender to the bathroom for a quiet moment.
What if we made it standard to have more options that encourage everyone to attend?
There should be a room with seating available, a pop-up tent, or an area off to the side where people can recharge. A space is only the start, having a few fidget toys or sensory relief supports will bring your Sensory Event Bundle to the next level!
It is inspiring to see larger festivals start to open sensory tents as an oasis. There is no reason you can't bring the same comfort to your neurodivergent loved ones. Everyone I know has a loved one or close family friend with autism who experiences severe sensory overwhelm.
