About Me

Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister

I was born and raised in Indiana. While I used to imagine moving away to start fresh, I am grateful for the blessings I received by staying local. Motherhood reminded me to set better intentions for myself, my growth, and my future.

As a kid people would describe me as extremely picky, shy, emotional, creative, empathetic, and soft-hearted. I had a strong sense of justice and rules were meant to be followed. I had trouble processing jokes and very black and white thinking. People would also tell me I was a tattle-tale, bossy, and annoying. The adults around me never had the education to identify Autism or ADHD in girls but all the signs were there.

I studied Criminal Justice and Criminology and graduated from Ball State University at twenty years old. I had no idea there was any other way to live; my mask was glued on tight. I dedicated myself to serving victims. Over the years, I learned the importance of boundaries, the power of hope, and the value of filling gaps. Living independently came with challenges, but overall life went smoothly.

I navigated most of my life without knowing I had Autism and ADHD. My parents taught me enough to meet societal expectations, I worked relentlessly, and I implemented countless coping mechanisms. It wasn’t until I experienced hormonal shifts in postpartum that I struggled severely with my memory and basic executive functioning skills. It felt like I couldn't do anything anymore. My systems no longer worked. I felt out of sorts, and I started asking questions.

Women with ADHD often encounter more severe symptoms at different stages of life. When we encounter childbirth or menopause, our hormonal changes drastically impact our symptoms. I am on a journey to help women find the information and support they deserve.

I’ve always been proud of what I do and relentless in helping others. On the other hand, I forget to eat and care for myself in ‘little’ ways. As it turns out the little things are the big things. I have always been a workaholic. I struggled with personal identity for a long time and over-invested in work and productivity. (Sound familiar? Maybe we’re a match!) It’s easy for me to work diligently for a big cause, but it’s beyond challenging to do laundry, clean the cat box, sweep the floors, etc. Now, I recognize my self-worth and confidence were largely tied productivity. Another common trait among people with Autism and ADHD.

I met an incredible man to raise a family with who changed my life. I had my partner to lean on when my executive functioning skills went out the window. I started to recognize a huge gap in awareness and access to support. I knew my career in victim advocacy aligned with a bigger purpose to help women feel empowered to reach their goals and change their lives.

Talking about mental health itself is such a challenge but it can be mystifying when you’re neurodivergent.

At 27, my world view finally started to make sense. I saw that I missed chances out of fear of failure or rejection sensitivity, my sensory issues have been so intense I get physically ill, and transitions can wreck my day, I slowly stopped blaming myself.

When my daughter learns about Autism and ADHD for herself it will be in a new world. Rewriting the narrative starts today.
